    Assassin G by Immortal Studios

Exclusive: Immortal Studios' ASSASSIN G Coming To Kickstarter
Immortal Studios is about to launch a brand new Kickstarter for Assassin G, the fourth comic of its Storyverse, and we've got exclusive details!

    BY MARCEL GREEN
    PUBLISHED 2 DAYS AGO

Immortal Studios' is expanding its martial arts fantasy Storyverse with Assassin G, which is set to launch a Kickstarter campaign later this month. The story of Assassin G is incredibly popular in China and has been adapted to television four times. This will mark the property's first English language adaptation.

Assassin G is the Los Angeles-based Immortal Studios' latest martial arts tale that seeks to bring the Wuxia literary tradition to the comic book form. Wuxia refers to the age-old genre of Chinese fiction that focuses on the tales of heroes who uses their exceptional martial arts skills to protect the public interest, take down corrupt officials, and avenge those who have down them wrong. While the Wuxia tradition is based in feudal China, with Assassin G Immortal Studios hopes to produce a decidedly modern interpretation of the ancient storytelling art to attract a whole new generation to a rich, and entertaining cache of content.

Assassin G is written by Jen Troy with art by He Tao and tells the story of Chinese-American Margot Gan, an orphan who was raised under the tutelage of a martial arts master. She grows up to become Assassin G and seeks revenge against the Seven Cultivations Alliance, who were responsible for the betrayal of her stepmother. However, while in the midst of avenging her family's honor, she meets a member of her target organization. Ultimately, the two falls in love, causing a range of issues that affect them on the battlefield, within their families, and most importantly with themselves personally. In discussing the story Troy stated, "Besides being a skilled martial artist, Assassin G is a woman caught up in a generational family war like Romeo and Juliet. She seeks revenge and enacts it - all while wearing pants."

In producing Assassin G, Troy did not have to look far for inspiration or ideas. The comic is based on the popular Wuxia story, Sister Gan Nineteen by Shiao Yi, one of the foremost authors of the Wuxia genre, and the father of Immortal Studios' Founder and CEO Peter Payhuan Shiao. In discussing how Assassin G developed, Shiao commented, "We’re transporting the core story elements of the original into the greed-fueled, pop driven, and post war days of the early 1980s at a time when many of the ancient traditions are disappearing to reflect where we are at today."

In regards to Immortal Studio's efforts to introduce Wuxia to the American comic book reading public, Shiao stated:

"I have spoken extensively with my father many of these ideas to chart a new path for Wuxia that have been informed by my own journey and authentic experiences, and am so heartened that this day has finally arrived. With the imminent arrival of Assassin G, Immortal is kicking into high gear with the establishment of our four pillar approach to returning Wuxia to its origins while reaching into the future. Our first four stories, The Adept, Assassin G, Chronicles of the Immortal Swordsmen, and Fa Sheng, were designed to do just that.Ultimately, these stories are here to awaken the hero in everyone.”

Assassin G's first will feature a main cover by He Tao, as well as variant covers from celebrated comic book artists Jim Cheung, Joyce Chin, and Gene Ha, and a variant cover by celebrated painter Gian Galang.

"Assassin G delivers Wuxia action and international intrigue,” said He Tao. “Each page needs to capture the interpersonal drama that drives the story, along with widescreen set pieces and ‘80s era culture. I was a fan of the original Gang 19th Sister in Chinese, and it’s a career high to bring the story of Assassin G and JP Yin to life in the first ever comic book adaptation of the story to bring this classic to a new international audience.”

While the Immortal Studio's Assassin G Kickstarter campaign is set to begin later this month, a pre-launch page is already available on Kickstarter right now. Check out the Assassin G project here.

    More on Assassin G

Martial Arts Heroine Is the Star of Immortal Studios’ New Wuxia Comic
Packed with action, romance, and revenge, ‘Assassin G’ takes the wuxia genre into the pop-fueled 1980s

Home > Daily Drip > Martial Arts Heroine Is the Star of Immortal Studios’ New Wuxia Comic

A potent mix of martial arts, badass female fighters, and Romeo and Juliet-esque romance, the new wuxia comic Assassin G by Immortal Studios is currently in its fundraising stage on Kickstarter.

An adaptation of iconic Chinese-American author Shiao Yi’s popular wuxia novel Gan the Nineteenth Sister (甘十九妹), the comic series follows the story of Margot Gan, an orphaned girl raised by a martial arts master simply known as ‘Assassin G.’

Margot’s mission is to avenge her stepmother, who was betrayed by a powerful congregation of martial arts families. When the heroine meets JP Yin, the leading heir of one of the families, the two develop a mutual admiration for one another that blossoms into a potential romance.

The series is brimming with action, family feuds, martial arts, and bloody revenge and is the fourth addition to The Immortal Storyverse (TIS), an interconnected universe populated with characters from the studio’s previous series (The Adept, Fa Sheng: Origins, and Chronicles of the Immortal Swordsmen).

Gan the Nineteenth Sister has seen numerous television adaptations, including two Mandarin-language dramas in 2008 and 2015. However, Assassin G will introduce English-speaking audiences to a time-honored classic for the first time, thanks to writer Ben Troy and illustrator Tao He.

While Assassin G stays true to traditional elements of the wuxia genre, it will be based in the pop-fueled 1980s — an exciting twist characteristic of Immortal Studios.

“As wuxia has been popularized and disseminated globally, it has a deep connection with Chinese youth culture,” said CEO Peter Shiao in a previous interview with RADII.

    New Trailer

Wuxia Graphic Novel, Assassin G by Jen Troy & He Tao, Gets A Trailer
Posted on August 2, 2022 by Rich Johnston|Comments
Later this month Immortal Studios is launching their latest Kickstarter campaign for their latest Immortaverse series, Assassin G by Jen Troy, a writer for the CW's Supergirl and artist He Tao, featuring coloring by Hi-Fi Design and lettering by AndWorld Design. "With her mastery of the Vermillion Pavilion's signature fight moves such as Chiral Light and Umbral Strike, Assassin G is truly without peer," said Hank Kanalz, new Immortal Studios Head of Publishing. "This is our fourth addition to the Immortal Storyverse, and I'm quite pleased how this story has solid threads into our other series, and yet stands alone as an exciting new action-packed thrilling quest for revenge."

Bleeding Cool previously reported that former DC Comics editors Brian Cunningham, and former DC SVP and Youngblood co-creator Hank Kanalz, had joined Immortal Studios, working with Dynamite Entertainment on a line of Wuxia genre graphic novels to comic book stores that had been crowdfunded on Kickstarter, as part of their Storyverse, or Immortaverse, with a series of interconnected comic books inspired by the storytelling of Shiao Yi. His son Peter Payhuan Shiao is CEO and Founder of Immortal Studios, collaborating with a team of comic book storytellers, to modernize and globalize the Wuxia genre.

Cover art and trailer are below…

ASSASSIN G presents the deadly saga of vengeance between warring factions in the martial underworld in the early 1980's. The novel that inspired ASSASSIN G by Wuxia master Shiao Yi, 甘 19 妹 (gan the 19th Assassin), is known as one of the preeminent IPs in the Chinese speaking world which has been adapted for television four times, and this new series will mark the story's first comic book and English language adaptation. A pre-launch page that fans can click on to get an email when the Assassin G Kickstarter campaign launches, is now live.

In ASSASSIN G, Margot Gan was orphaned at the age of two and raised to be a master martial artist, the virtually unstoppable and ghostlike Assassin G. Her sole mission in life is to eliminate the powerful families of the Seven Cultivations Alliance and avenge their betrayal of her stepmother, the formidable Shui Hongshao. But everything changes when Assassin G encounters JP Yin, the leading heir of the Yueyang Family (one of the families of the Seven Cultivations Alliance).

"At the heart of ASSASSIN G is a thrilling game of cat and mouse that plays out between an Assassin syndicate and the ruling martial families," said Jen Troy. "When they meet, both fists and romantic sparks fly leading us to wonder: will their mutual admiration lead to something more or will their loyalties to their respective families keep them apart like Romeo & Juliet? It's the classic 'will they, won't they'', and it plays out in a super fun globe-trotting adventure in the '80s.

"ASSASSIN G delivers Wuxia action and international intrigue," said He Tao, an artist from Tan Comics, who has worked on HOME and Free Fire comics. "Each page needs to capture the interpersonal drama that drives the story, along with widescreen set pieces and '80s era culture. I was a fan of the original Gang 19th Sister in Chinese, and It's a career high to bring the story of Assassin G and Jp Yin to life in the first ever comic book adaptation of the story to bring this classic to a new international audience."

"Our goal is to bring the entirety of the wuxia tradition from its founding spiritual ideals thousands of years ago, and more recent interpretations, into the contemporary world," said Peter Shiao. "In Assassin G We're transporting the core story elements of the original 甘 19 妹 (gan the 19th Assassin) into the greed-fueled, pop driven, and post war days of the early 1980's at a time when many of the ancient traditions are disappearing to reflect where we are at today. I am so very excited to introduce this legendary story to the West for the first time, while offering the millions of existing fans brand new story elements."

Assassin G #1 will feature a main cover by He Tao, as well as variant covers from Joyce Chin, Gene Ha and Gian Gulang, who created the artwork for the Criterion Collection's Bruce Lee boxed set – this will be his first comic book art project.
