Shi San Quan Origins?

Hey all,

I've seen Shi San Quan pop all over the place recently, probably because it's now part of the (frankly quite weird) official Duan Pin forms syllabus which is being pushed in the global tour of gradings/competitions. A few years ago I'd never heard of it.

Purely to satisfy my curiosity, does anyone know where this came from? Is it just something they made up as a new beginner form for the syllabus?

I've seen it a couple of times too. In the comments of this video 3 years ago it says it's a regularly practiced routine in the temple:

I've seen a number of these shorter sets that I think are a regular thing but are so short that they maybe don't get a lot of attention. (or it could be a newer thing too...) Anyway here are a couple of examples:
