Sad news for fans of billionaires beating the paste out of one another. It looks like the Mark Zuckerberg vs Elon Musk cage match isn’t happening, according to exclusive audio heard by Reuters. In an audio recording exclusively provided to the publication, the surprisingly buff Zuckerberg told Meta employees at a company town hall that he’s “not sure if it’s going to come together.”

Zuckerberg’s comments on the match occurred during a company-wide discussion regarding Meta’s recently-launched Twitter rival, Threads, which has been stuttering a bit in the weeks since blasting onto the scene.

Zuck didn’t actually say the match is off, just that it remains unlikely. So keep that glass half full, fight fans. Musk, who loves the letter “X” more than most people love clean air, hasn’t issued a response, but given Zuckerberg’s recent penchant for jiu jitsu, he could be relieved.

The cage fight was supposed to be a glitzy Las Vegas affair, with the pair of billionaires dancing around the topics of date and venue for the past month or so. Zuckerberg has seemed pretty serious about the fight from the get-go, and Musk eventually relented, tweeting (x-ing?) that he was “up for a cage match” if the Meta CEO was. Musk also said he has this “great move” called "the walrus" where he lays on top of opponents and does nothing.

Zuck certainly seemed ready to take on the challenge, according to trainer and MMA legend Alex Volkanovski. And though he generally treated the whole thing as a joke, Musk did sort of prepare for the fight by accepting a training offer from UFC champ Georges St-Pierre and sparring with podcaster Lex Fridman. Of course, that's when he's taking a break from retweeting (re-xing?) hateful anti-trans content and changing the site's rules to allow for misgendering. Dana White, president of the UFC, has also told reporters that the organization was ready to assist with the event.

Maybe they can fight over presidency in a few years...

NEW YORK (AP) — Elon Musk says his potential in-person fight with Mark Zuckerberg would be streamed on his social media site X, formerly known as Twitter.

The two tech billionaires seemingly agreed to a “cage match” face-off in late June. Zuckerberg is actually trained in mixed martial arts, and the CEO of Facebook’s parent company Meta posted about completing his first jiu jitsu tournament earlier this year.

“Zuck v Musk fight will be live-streamed on X,” Musk wrote in a post Sunday on the platform. “All proceeds will go to charity for veterans.”

Musk said earlier Sunday he was training for the fight by lifting weights.

“Don’t have time to work out, so I just bring them to work,” Musk wrote on X.

Whether or not Musk and Zuckerberg actually make it to the ring has yet to be seen — especially as Musk often tweets about action prematurely or without following through. But even if their cage match agreement is all a joke, the banter has gained attention.

It all started when Musk, who owns X, responded to a tweet about Meta preparing to release a new Twitter rival called Threads. He took a dig about the world becoming “exclusively under Zuck’s thumb with no other options” — but then one Twitter user jokingly warned Musk of Zuckerberg’s jiu jitsu training.

“I’m up for a cage match if he is lol,” Musk wrote.

Musk’s push to stream the video live on X comes as he’s pushing to turn the platform into a “digital town square.” However, his much-publicized Twitter Spaces kickoff event in May with Florida Gov. Ron DeSantis announcing his run for president struggled with technical glitches and a near half-hour delay.

Musk had said the problems were due to “straining” servers because so many people were trying to listen to the audio-only event. But even at their highest, the number of listeners listed topped out at around 420,000, far from the millions of viewers that televised presidential announcements attract.

Elon Musk announced on X Sunday that he's received an MRI and may require surgery before his proposed fight with Mark Zuckerburg.

"I'm getting an MRI of my neck & upper back tomorrow," Musk said. "May require surgery before the fight can happen. Will know this week."

Zuckerberg was the first to pitch a date for a possible fight night, reserving August 26th, but he has yet to receive a response from Musk," the Meta CEO wrote on Threads. It's uncertain whether or not the event will actually happen.

If Musk requires surgery, the fight, which already has no official date, will be postponed indefinitely.

The two billionaires in the tech industry have been preparing for a possible showdown and taunting each other publicly in the meantime.

Earlier this year, there were posts about Zuckerberg completing his first jiu-jitsu tournament, revealing that he is trained in mixed martial arts. He won two medals in a Brazilian Jiu-Jitsu tournament held at a Silicon Valley high school on May 5, 2023.

Given their backgrounds in jiu-jitsu, it's more probable that if a fight between Zuckerburg and Musk happens, it will take on a UFC style, as opposed to traditional boxing. Zuckerburg has a history in the sport, while Musk has trained with notable MMA practitioners John Danaher and Lex Friedman.

If a Zuck v Musk fight happens, it will be live streamed on 𝕏 and all proceeds will go to charity for veterans, according to Musk.

Meta CEO Mark Zuckerberg is mocking X owner Elon Musk’s recent announcement that a potential cage match between the two tech billionaires will be livestreamed on X, formerly known as Twitter.
“Shouldn’t we use a more reliable platform that can actually raise money for charity?” Zuckerberg wrote Sunday in a post on Threads, Meta’s new alternative to X.
Zuckerberg’s post came hours after Musk said on X that the fight will be livestreamed on his platform and all proceeds will go to charity for veterans.
The weeks-long back-and-forth over the fight started when Musk said in June that he was “up for a cage match if [Zuckerberg] is,” in response to a post about Threads. Zuckerberg later responded to Musk, writing “Send Me Location,” in an Instagram story.
Since then, the two tech CEOs have gone back and forth on social media with apparent teases of the cage fight, sparking memes and posts of “choose your fighter.”

Tesla and X owner Elon Musk is mulling the suggestion of having a “noble” debate instead of a cage fight with Meta CEO Mark Zuckerberg.
A post on X, the platform formerly known as Twitter, suggested the idea of a cage match debate, to which Musk responded, “That sounds like a good idea too.”
“This is really fighting (I believe) a noble sport,” he wrote. “We also hope, with humility, to express our admiration for those who have fought before for noble causes.”

ONE Championship CEO Chatri Sityodtong doesn't believe Elon Musk actually wants to fight Mark Zuckerberg.


The two tech billionaires made headlines earlier this summer after they both declared their interest in taking part in an MMA fight. However, they've come to a standstill in recent days with Zuckerberg accusing Musk of not being serious about actually wanting to fight.

Sityodtong seems to agree as he believes Musk — who later said he'd show up at Zuckerberg's house — is essentially trying to bully the Meta founder.

“A few hours ago, Elon said that he was planning to show up to Mark’s house to fight him. Elon is one of the greatest entrepreneurs in history and I have a lot of respect for his guts, accomplishments, and intellect. However, I dislike bullying of any kind,” Sityodtong wrote in a Facebook post. “First, Elon genuinely knows nothing about fighting or martial arts despite his claims to the contrary. As a lifelong expert martial artist who has been in my fair share of scraps, I can tell simply by the way he is acting.

“The problem with most men who have never fought and/or trained seriously in martial arts is exactly what Elon is doing. They have a false sense of bravado and no understanding or appreciation for what technical skills and knowledge can do in a fight. A legit blue belt in jiu-jitsu is very dangerous to someone who knows nothing.

“As CEO of the world’s largest martial arts organization and someone involved in the fight game as my life, I know when people want to fight or not. When people want to fight, they accept a fight and simply show up. When people don’t want to fight, they do exactly what Elon has been doing. They make up excuses, conditions, and reasons for avoiding the fight. Elon has made up puzzling excuse after excuse, be it the need for surgery, the need to do it in the Coliseum in Italy, the idea of doing it through his and Mark’s foundations, the idea of a backyard practice run, etc.”

Should the fight take place, there's a raging debate over who would win. Some think it's an automatic Musk win since he's the bigger and heavier man with some judo experience. However, Zuckerberg is the more active “fighter” with a blue belt in Brazilian jiu-jitsu and has even won tournaments.

As far as Sityodtong is concerned, he sees the result being very straight forward.

“The global martial arts community is small,” the ONE CEO added. “Consensus from people who have trained with Mark and/or Elon is that there is a large gap in skills in favor of Mark. Mark might be new to martial arts, but he is a real martial artist. He is a legit blue belt in jiu-jitsu under Dave Camarillo and consistently trains hard multiple times a week.

“… Mark might be only 2 years into his journey as a martial artist, but he has fully adopted the warrior way of life. In my expert opinion, Mark will likely choke Elon unconscious in a fight. Elon could win by a lucky punch due to his size and weight. He’s 186cm and weighs 100kg. Mark is 171cm and weighs 70kg. However, Mark is in fighting shape and Elon is not. Mark has the gas tank for 3 rounds and Elon has the gas tank for 3 minutes. As all martial artists know, skill often trumps size when there is a large disparity in skill. I am not saying that Mark will win 100%. A fight is a fight. Elon could get lucky. What I am saying though is that Mark has a very high probability of winning.”

Mark Zuckerberg is currently travelling and has no interest in fighting someone who 'randomly shows up at his house', a spokesperson has said after Elon Musk claimed to have arrived at his Palo Alto property on Monday.

Musk contacted Zuckerberg through his X social-media platform, formerly known as Twitter, to tell his tech rival he was outside his California home and ready for a practice MMA bout.

'Knock, knock,' he wrote, 'challenge accepted … open the door'.

The billionaire duo have been flirting with the possibility of a super-fight that UFC president Dana White believes would generate over $1billion in revenue for the best part of two months, yet Zuckerberg recently cast doubt over it materializing.

And despite being told to forget about a warm-up fight in a private exchange leaked by Musk to his biographer Walter Isaacson, the Tesla chief seemingly ignored that advice and rocked up at his house in Palo Alto.

However, Zuckerberg is said to not even be at the property right now and is instead 'travelling' - although he wouldn't entertain a practice bout with Musk even if he was.

'Mark is traveling right now and isn’t in Palo Alto. Also, Mark takes this sport seriously and isn’t going to fight someone who randomly shows up at his house,' a spokesperson for Zuckerberg told The Verge.

Musk leaked his private messages with Zuckerberg over the weekend after sending a screenshot of their latest exchange to Isaacson, in which he urged the Facebook founder to accept a warm-up fight before their proposed $1b showdown.

Zuckerberg, however, told him to get serious over a competitive contest or 'move on' from the saga amid fears they are 'hyping something that will never happen'.

'If you still want to do a real MMA fight, then you should train on your own and let me know when you're ready to compete,' he wrote.

'I don't want to keep hyping something that will never happen, so you should either decide you're going to do this and do it soon, or we should move on.'

According to Business Insider, Musk's full reply was: 'I have not been practicing much, apart from a brief bout with Lex Fridman today.

'While I think it is very unlikely, given our size difference, perhaps you are a modern day Bruce Lee and will somehow win.'

Zuckerberg has expressed doubts over a competitive battle with Musk, which would likely be staged at the Colosseum in Rome, taking place anytime soon.

He also told Musk to contact him if he ever 'gets serious about a real date and official event' for a cage fight under MMA rules in a post on his new social-media platform Threads.

‘I offered a real date. [UFC president] Dana White offered to make this a legit competition for charity,' Zuckerberg said.

'Elon won’t confirm a date, then says he needs surgery, and now asks to do a practice round in my backyard instead.

'If Elon ever gets serious about a real date and official event, he knows how to reach me. Otherwise, time to move on. I’m going to focus on competing with people who take the sport seriously.’

Not sure who to score this one for... leaning towards Zuck again because showing up at someone's house without an appointment ain't cool.

Mark Zuckerberg is taking his MMA obsession to another level by building an octagon in his backyard.
But his wife, Priscilla Chan, didn't appear to be too happy in a WhatsApp conversation he shared.
"I have been working on that grass for two years," Chan responded to one of his messages.

Mark Zuckerberg has built an octagon fighting ring in his backyard, but his wife, Priscilla Chan, doesn't seem thrilled.

The Meta CEO shared a WhatsApp message exchange between the couple in an Instagram post on Wednesday, in which he asked: "Did you see the octagon I put in the backyard?"

"Yes, I saw it," she responded.

To which Zuckerberg said: "It looks awesome," and then added: "We have plenty of yard space!"

But Chan appeared to disagree and bluntly responded: "I have been working on that grass for two years."

Zuckerberg posted the exchange alongside a poll with the question: "What's the Play?" with the options "Keep the octagon" or "Save the grass."

You can see the text exchange here. An Octagon is an eight-sided fighting cage typically used for MMA fights.

The 39-year-old has been competing in — and winning — multiple jiu-jitsu tournaments and has been coached by some of the sport's biggest pros, including the Brazilian jiu-jitsu black belt Dave Camarillo.

Zuckerberg has also previously expressed interest in fighting Elon Musk after the billionaire owner of X, the platform formerly known as Twitter, joked in June that he would be "up for a cage match" to settle their 7-year-old beef in the ring.

Then Zuckerberg responded to Musk's challenge by writing three words on an Instagram Story: "Send Me Location."

In July, Musk tweeted: "Zuck is cuck. I propose a literal dick-measuring contest."

But a recent transcript of an internal meeting at Meta obtained by Gizmodo suggests that Zuckerberg might have changed his mind, seeming less keen on a fight with his tech-world nemesis.

When asked by an employee whether the cage match would go on, Zuckerberg responded: "I don't know. I don't have any kind of official update on this."

"I mean, as you all know, I love fighting. I would love to do an MMA competition at some point. I wasn't expecting this to be the one that I did. I'm not sure if it's going to come together, but I just think that it's a great sport overall," he added.

Long gone are the days when Mark Zuckerberg drew the internet's collective mockery for wearing far, far too much sunscreen while surfing. The new summertime Zuck spars with MMA fighters on a floating barge.

In a joint video post on Instagram with Nigerian and New Zealand MMA fighter Israel Adesanya, Zuckerberg trains on the water with Adesanya and Australian MMA fighter Alexander Volkanovski, kicking, grappling, and flipping — all set to a clip from the "Mission: Impossible" soundtrack.

We still have yet to see a cage fight between Zuckerberg and Elon Musk, a potential match-up that's been discussed since June, when Musk tweeted that he'd be up for a cage match with Zuckerberg and the Meta CEO agreed. While that fight may never happen at all — Zuckerberg has since said "Elon isn't serious" about an official fight after the Tesla CEO later floated the idea of a "noble" debate instead — the Facebook cofounder has continued showing off his new shredded persona in full force.

This is just the billionaire Meta CEO's latest flex, following posts earlier this year commemorating his blue belt in jiu-jitsu, his first jiu jitsu tournament, and a picture of Zuckerberg standing shirtless between Adesanya and Volkanovski.

Zuckerberg first started training in jiu-jitsu during the COVID-19 pandemic lockdowns and now trains in jiu-jitsu and MMA three to four times a week — he told podcaster Lex Fridman that learning martial arts involved him getting "beaten up a lot."

All the jiu-jitsu content follows a shot of him doing a trick on his hydrofoil surfboard, undoubtedly a far cooler picture than the paparazzi snapshot of him with a face plastered in sunscreen that went viral over two years ago. He's since reclaimed the latter with a surfboard design showing an artist's illustration of the image, which he posted with the caption "the sun never stood a chance."

He also made a not-so-subtle nod to the much-memed photo back in 2021, showing off a hydrofoil-surfing look for his avatar in a game for Meta's metaverse that came complete with sunscreen. The virtual look was called "SPF 5000."

MARK Zuckerberg and Elon Musk were sat separated at an AI tech event as talks over their proposed super fight continue.

Both Zuckerberg, 39, and Musk, 52, arrived at Capitol Hill in Washington on Wednesday to participate in the AI Insight Forum.

However, shots from inside the Senate hearing show the two tech giants seated at opposite ends of the panel.

The Meta Platforms co-founder Zuckerberg and Tesla co-founder Musk have been at odds in recent months.

This has led to a public spat between them, with the duo pushing for a cage fight to be organized by UFC boss Dana White.

However, talks over the proposed $1billion super fight have recently stalled, with Zuckerberg having called time on the proposal in August.

"Elon isn't serious and it's time to move on," wrote Zuckerberg on Threads, an app created as a rival to Musk's platform X, formerly known as Twitter.

And according to White, it doesn't look likely talks will reopen in the near future.

Speaking to Charly Arnolt on Outkick The Morning, he admitted: "I never say never, but probably not."

White was clearly disappointed that talks had collapsed, stating that it "would have been the biggest charity event ever held in history."

He claimed that 90-percent of the estimated $1billion that would have been made from the event would have gone to charities.

But despite this, avid MMA fan Zuckerberg isn't letting this get in the way of his martial arts journey.

White told TMZ in August that the Facebook co-founder is "very serious about competing" a UFC fighter.

He elaborated: "When [Zuckerberg] mentioned it, he said – listen, what he was saying in response to Elon was there are tons of professional organizations out there and this is the way this should be done, not in some backyard or whatever Elon was saying."

This was a dig at Musk's previous suggestion during an exchange on social media that he and Zuckerberg should practice in the latter's backyard octagon.

In fact, in August Musk tweeted that he had arrived at Zuckerberg's Palo Alto home.

"Knock, knock … challenge accepted … open the door," he wrote, adding: "Thought you might want some tea, so I brought the bags."

As for the actual fight, Musk had a grander location in mind - the Colosseum in Rome.

"Fight Recap: I joked on X about fighting Zuck," Musk tweeted.

"Zuck then said 'SEND ME LOCATION.' Italy graciously offered a Colosseum. Zuck declined."

Meta CEO Mark Zuckerberg just had surgery as a result of an injury to his ACL that occurred during mixed-martial arts training, according to CNBC.

The Facebook co-founder revealed his injury on Friday via an Instagram post in which he said that he “tore my ACL sparring and just got out of surgery to replace it.”

“I was training for a competitive MMA fight early next year, but now that’s delayed a bit,” Zuckerberg said. “Still looking forward to doing it after I recover.”

“Thanks to everyone for the love and support,” he added.

Zuckerberg included several photos of himself at an undisclosed hospital that shows the executive prior to his surgery and then after the procedure with his wife Priscilla Chan comforting him during his recovery, according to CNBC.

The Meta CEO has taken an interest in MMA and competitive fighting in recent years and has been training in a variety of martial arts, including Brazilian Jiu-Jitsu.

In May, he revealed in a Facebook post that competed in his first jiu-jitsu tournament in which he won a gold and silver medal.

Zuckerberg’s recent injury to his ACL comes after a brief verbal exchange between the Meta executive and Tesla chief Elon Musk who were floating a possible cage match.

The fight never took place, however, with Zuckerberg saying during the summer via a post on Threads that “we can all agree Elon isn’t serious and it’s time to move on.”

Zuckerberg said that while Ultimate Fighting Championship President Dana White offered to make the match between the two executives “a legit competition for charity,” Musk never confirmed a date.

“If Elon ever gets serious about a real date and official event, he knows how to reach me,” Zuckerberg said at the time. “Otherwise, time to move on. I’m going to focus on competing with people who take the sport seriously.”

Meta CEO Mark Zuckerberg's passion for mixed martial arts resulted in Elon Musk challenging him to a cage fight

Facebook parent Meta warned investors in its latest annual report that its CEO’s passion for combat sports and other high-risk activities could harm its business if he were to be unavailable as a result of partaking in such activities.

In an annual report filed with the Securities and Exchange Commission (SEC), Meta noted that CEO Mark Zuckerberg practices combat sports, including mixed martial arts (MMA) and other activities that pose a high risk to his wellbeing that could impact the social media giant’s performance.

"We currently depend on the continued services and performance of our key personnel, including Mark Zuckerberg. Mr. Zuckerberg and certain other members of management participate in various high-risk activities, such as combat sports, extreme sports, and recreational aviation, which carry the risk of serious injury and death," the company said in the filing.

"If Mr. Zuckerberg were to become unavailable for any reason, there could be a material adverse impact on our operations," Meta continued in the report.

Zuckerberg has competed in Brazilian jiu-jitsu tournaments and was reportedly receiving training to receive his private pilot’s license in 2023. His passion for combat sports resulted in him being challenged to a cage fight by Elon Musk last year after Musk completed the acquisition of X, formerly Twitter, setting up what was to be a battle of billionaire social media tycoons.

Musk said in an X post in June 2023, "I’m up for a cage match if he is," which prompted Zuckerberg to screenshot a reply telling Musk to start his training and to "send me location." Musk proposed that the fight be held at a UFC facility in Las Vegas, Nevada, and UFC president Dana White said the two were "dead serious" about the fight at the time.

Musk said in August that while he had begun training for the fight, he had to get an MRI of his neck and upper back and may require surgery before a fight — though he later offered to drive to Zuckerberg’s house for a practice fight.

A week later, Zuckerberg said in a post on Meta’s Threads, a rival to X, that the billionaire brawl was unlikely to go ahead in the near future.

"I think we can all agree Elon isn’t serious and it’s time to move on. I offered a real date. Dana White offered to make this a legit competition for charity. Elon won’t confirm a date, then says he needs surgery, and now asks to do a practice round in my backyard instead," Zuckerberg wrote.

"If Elon ever gets serious about a real date and official event, he knows how to reach me. Otherwise, time to move. I’m going to focus on competing with people who take the sport seriously," he added.

Last fall, Musk left the door open to a future fight with Zuckerberg during an appearance on the Joe Rogan Experience podcast, saying he was willing to fight Zuckerberg "any time, anywhere, any place any rules."

When pressed by Rogan on his fitness and preparation, Musk said his cardio endurance "will not be a factor" and added that "Dana White thinks it would be a big ticket fight."

Zuckerberg suffered a knee injury during an MMA training session that required surgery in November 2023.

"Tore my ACL sparring and just got out of surgery to replace it," Zuckerberg wrote in an Instagram post. "Grateful for the doctors and team taking care of me."

"I was training for a competitive MMA fight early next year, but now that’s delayed a bit. Still looking forward to doing it after I recover. Thanks to everyone for the love and support," he added.

The tech boss enjoyed a masterclass with Japanese sword maker Akihira Kokaji.
Zuckerberg is on a mini-tour in Asia and is also scheduled to meet Facebook developers in Tokyo.

Mark Zuckerberg has picked up a new hobby.

The Meta CEO posted pictures and videos of himself learning to make a Katana, a Japanese sword with a curved, single-edged blade, under the guidance of sword master Akihira Kokaji.

The videos show Zuckerberg helping to construct the weapon and then wielding the finished product.

"Really special afternoon learning about making katanas with master akihira.kokaji -- thank you for sharing your craft with us!" he said in an Instagram post.

The tech CEO is touring parts of Asia with his family. He is due to meet Facebook developers in Tokyo on Monday and Tuesday, Bloomberg reported.

Zuckerberg is reportedly set to discuss Meta's large language model, Llama, and Meta's Quest headsets as the company faces increasing pressure from Apple in the VR headset space.

The trip also involves stops in South Korea and India to meet business and government leaders, the report said.

Representatives for Zuckerberg did not immediately respond to a request for comment from Business Insider, made outside normal working hours.

Zuckerberg has shared several other personal posts over the years, some more awkward than others. The Meta CEO recently announced he was raising cattle that would drink beer produced on his sprawling estate.

The tech boss also recently used his platform to share a video comparing Apple's Vision Pro with the Meta Quest 3. Zuckerberg, unsurprisingly, concluded that Meta's device was better.
