Unhappy Could chi-kung help my dying lungs?

I have had asthma for all of my life,I have not had any problems for years, but now Iīm having breathing problems everyday!
Doctors say that the stress causes it and that it has nothing to with asthma, but they just canīt do anything about it...
    How about chi-kung?

Sure, if you have stress induced asthma, anything that will lower your stress levels will be helpful. Chi kung can be practiced without too much stress on the lungs, althought it does stimulate the cardiovascular system.

    In Mind-ish

I had in mind to think about person's lung situation; move my hands like they were passing over the troublded areas...that was about that. I might repeat as I felt was appropriate. But then listen to see how the situation gets different. Especially to see if it gets worse-wouldn't want things to get worse. I only hope it would stick long enough for persons (or your , or whose ever 's) body to readjust to make it more performance operative.

Supposedly the body~fixes it's self I just give it a hopefully strong enough suggestion that it gets to it sooner rather than later. Basically, some-such.

So you're talking about energy healing? If you would like to do that on me, feel free. I will take any healing I can get to try and sort out my asthma.

i too have had asthma my entire life, and it's been pretty constant throughout.
i do breathing exercises before chi gung. i imagine (when inhaling through nose) that i'm inhaling clean, healthy air. when exhaling (through small hole in mouth) i imagine all the dirt and asthma in my lungs leaving with the breath. i do about 30 reps a day, and when finished i spend a minute relaxed, thinking, feeling and believing that i have just made my lungs healthier and stronger. i've done this for about 7 months and my asthma has lessoned considerably.
    hope i've helped.

    Justa man

Hi there, just out of curiosity, is it common for Qi-Gung to exhale through a small hole in the mouth ? Does your tongue contact the upper cave of your mouth during practise, or do you release it through every exhalation ?

    I appreciate your reply...
    Sorry for absense, lots happening.

    No_Know

Sorry I haven't replied recently - been away on a Christmas break. You may be pushing uphill on this one - we are having bad bush fires here and the smoke is making my asthma really bad. Try again sometime and I'll let you know how I go.

    BTW thanks

I have read that there are two problems that are often overlooked in case of asthma.

Why does stress cause asthma? One theory says that, because you breathe more under stress and too much oxygen is getting in to your system and you are losing too much carbon dioxide. I don't think the balance between these two components is the only reason, but there is supposed to be a chain reaction that follows and produces the result. An advice is given to parents whose children have asthma. If the seizure starts then grab around the child's chest and don't let him/her take deep breaths and it should stop. The theory also says that people have asthma problems more during their vacation in fresh air conditions, because they breathe deeper. If you do, for instance, standing practice, then you breathe in much less and thus your lungs expand. When you breathe deeply, then your lungs "contract" in order to keep the body from too much oxygen (anything is bad in large doses). People who breathe deeply have much less lung capacity. This also explains why mountain air good for lungs, because the air has less oxygen.

This theory doesn't explain what to do about it. Because starting to breathe less regularly with your abdomen (your lungs expand downwards and push the diaphragm) is not easy.
According to a Chinese medicine source, 60-70 percent of tuberculosis originates from kidney problems (the Chinese meaning of the word "kidneys" includes more than the English term). Lungs are the most vulnerable organs of the body that cannot stand neither cold nor heat. They are the the branches and leaves of the tree. The kidneys are the trunk. If the trunk is drying up then the leaves and branches go first.

I think that you should nourish your kidneys (Chinese term again)first and that will probably help your asthma. I think that standing meditation can probably help you. Deep breathing exercises might make things worse. Of course you have to have a good teacher or a lot of experience in this field. You don't want to get bad side-effects.

P.S. Check yangaofei.com, where there is an article of interest. He suggests standing and explains the good effects of standing practice to kidneys, lungs and for overall health. I am not a specialist, but many people support his theory.

    I feel your pain bro

Yea asthma has made my life pretty sh*tty too. The things i coulda accomplished..........Anyways do a query search for the BUTEYKO METHOD. It's a breathing excercise thats s'pose to reduce asthma by like 90%. It was made by this Russian Doctor who has some revolutionary ideas. One example is that Deep breathing is bad for you which could be possible since it was never proven good. .He said he noticed that only people close to dying breath deep and that if you look at a healthy person their chest bearly moves It was very HEAVILY RESEARCHED and has been a help for TENS of THOUSANDS of people. I dont think it's BS and i'm gonna try it since it sounds legit enough. I'll try anything to make my lungs better. Another thing to do is eat alot and i mean alot of FRUITS with CITRIC ACID. ORANGES, GRAPEFRUITS. Sh*t like that. I supposedly helped this lady who had horrible asthma problem. She was in the hospitable all the time. She never had an attack again. I think it's the Vitamin C. But dont use pills. I been doing that and it's not helping. Another important thing is to change your diet. Trust me on this. No white flour or sugar. Thats my advice. If you dont want to try the things i'm mentioning dont worry. I'm doing them too, so give me a month and i'll get back to you. What have you got to lose. "Modern medicine" hasn't given you any options except pumping you full of Drugs Oh yea, try that CHIGUNG thing, Thats sure to help you too.

    Exactly! It was Buteyko

The theory that I described in my previous mail was Buteyko's.
I think people with asthma should at least look in to it, because it might be good. I don't know if Buteiko suggests anything else besides "breathing less" (which is good advice - IMO), but standing practice under a good teacher's guidance should help make it a habit.
I think that there should be Yiquan in many countries (including Finland), there are at least seminars in most areas. Other internal arts also ought to have similar basic practices. I think you should give them a careful try. The results (good or bad) will probably take at least a few months to come out. IF you have a good teacher and follow the rules and listen to your body carefully, then standing will probably help.

Prana, it depends, there are diferent types of qigong.
The one i learned is done breathing trough the nose all the time while the tongue stays on the upper mouth thing like you said.
