For those of you that get those deep, aching chest coughs. Instead of heading out to the store to purchase the next best vapor rub, give this a try.

Get ahold of a thin piece of square cloth material (anything from old unsued pillow cases or shirts can work for this, as long as they are of thin material, going to a fabrics store will also be effective). You're looking for something along the lines of a tea bag. You'll also need some ground ginger.

Place some ground ginger into the center of the material, fold up the corners and then tie it off into a little bag of ginger. You dont want the bulb end to be pack/tied too tightly however, you need room for the ginger to breathe.

Set a pot on the stove to boil. Once the pot is at its boiling point, place the ginger baggy into the pot and let it sit for a bit. You want it in there long enough for the entire package to be good and moist. You should begin to smell a really strong ginger vapor, at which point you'll want to take it out of the pot.

Squeeze the ginger baggy slightly....you dont want it dripping, but you would like a VERY little amount of water still in the ginger. Be careful, it'll be hot.

Then you simply rub your chest with the baggy.
