No, thats a public safety issue. Those are public streets.
But what light bulbs you use in your house is your business. What toilet you want to use in your bathrom is your business. What washing machine you choose to use in your laundry room is your business. I thought The Left wants to "keep Government out of our bedrooms".
Bottom line, do you think Government has the right to dictate what light bulbs, washing machines, and toilets we can buy for our houses?
And Senator Paul made another point: The liberals ban certain types of products, then make laws to where we can't manufacture the 'approved' products here, so we are forced to buy things made in foreign countries. And those laws also offshore American jobs.
We identified, a solid 110+ year ago, mind you, that certain industries and corporations can dramatically affect the country, the people living within it, natural resources, and other businesses around them. At that point, you no longer act as an independent "I ain't hurtin' nobody" business. A lack of ethics and ruthlessness can easily send the nation into a tailspin. That is why, well over a century ago, our government determined that these key industries need to be regulated.
That, or you can deal with telecoms demanding $6 a minute calls, oil companies deciding they can get away with $10 a gallon gas, and then running any cheaper competitors into the ground.
Microsoft just recently was sued over this... and yeah, they paid a LOT.

"You don't feel lonely.Because you have a lively monkey"
"Ninja can HURT the Spartan, but the Spartan can KILL the Ninja"
That isn't what Senator Paul was talking about. Did you watch the video?
He was talking about the Federal Government banning certain light bulbs, toilets, and washing machines that Americans want to buy. It had nothing to do with regulating an industry to prevent price-fixing, gouging, etc, it had to do with the Government taking choices away from Americans.
Hmmm, it would seem that 1bad is unfamiliar with the whole concept of legislation that changes societal behaviours to the positive.
If not for people bringing recycle bins to the house and bylaws being passed to use them, landfill reduction simply would not occur.
By changing the legislation around filament lightbulbs and replacing them with lower energy consumption, longer life type tech, we are able to reduce energy consumption quite significantly. If the legislation weren't introduced, those controls on pollution and waste would not be in place.
By using low flow toilets, water is saved, energy is saved and waste is reduced. If not for the production and legislation in place that being to code requires them, then those positives would not be happening.
1bad seems to think that every single individual is fully capable of making there own choices based on their desire to waste and only by the merit of having the money to do so.
I disagree with him and would submit that the greater portion of people are not capable of functioning in society amicably without the legislation and without the law.
Look back in history and that is abundantly clear.
Your anarchist ideals are weird man. Also, if you gave them a second of sober thought, you would see how ludicrous your argument against environmentalism is.
Kung Fu is good for you.
Do you think that individuals are not capable of making their own choices and thus need the Federal Government to choose for them?
And yes, the Constitution does give us the right to be wasteful.
Yeah, without the Government telling us what to do, we'd all be running around blindly like a bunch of chickens with our heads cut off.
Speak for yourself buddy. I can live my life the way I choose without some beurocrat telling me whats best for me.
Thank you. I believe as the Founders do, and they were great men who felt we all have the right to life, liberty, and the pursuit of happiness.
Its sad, and scary, that people like you exist. You truly feel we all must be told by Government how to live every aspect of our daily lives. Senator Paul was speaking about people like you. People like you are only for personal freedom when others make the choices you think they should make.
I think a lot of people simply don't know what the best choice is. We elect our officials and they legislate, so people know enough to elect the guy or girl they want and it can be assumed that they would support the policies those people intend to legislate. And no, your constitution does NOT give you the right to be wasteful and none of your amendment do either. If anything, the gist of it is against waste.
empty rhetoric. You elect the people in office. It is you who decides who gets to write up the laws that you will abide by. Majority rules in your form of democracy, so really, if you can't get majority support for your waste and use ideas, then you have to accept the will of the people in containing your wasteful ways. I mean, if you are American, be American and follow the constitution, bill of rights and most importantly, rule of law that you have consented to be governed by.Yeah, without the Government telling us what to do, we'd all be running around blindly like a bunch of chickens with our heads cut off.
Or some school teaching you how to spell bureaucrat!Speak for yourself buddy. I can live my life the way I choose without some beurocrat telling me whats best for me.
Everyone has that in North America. Are you free? I think not. What happens if you find happiness and no longer need to pursue it? What happens then? Everyone has more of a right to die than to live it would seem.Thank you. I believe as the Founders do, and they were great men who felt we all have the right to life, liberty, and the pursuit of happiness.
It's sad that people like you insist on putting up lame ass straw men at every opportunity to justify their hand/to mouth/out ass understanding of the world. Its sad, and scary, that people like you exist. You truly feel we all must be told by Government how to live every aspect of our daily lives. Senator Paul was speaking about people like you. Kung Fu is good for you.
You really know ZIP about our country. You have no idea what our Constitution means, how our Government works, what our Bill of Rights means, and on and on. Heck, you're the guy who said our Federal Reserve was a private corporation.
So isn't it great that we have people like you to tell us what's good for us.
Prove it. Show me where it is a "gist against waste". It limits the Government's power, not the people's. Notice it repeatedly uses the words 'shall not' in reference to the Government, but NOT ONCE in reference to the people.
Again you show you know nothing about our laws or Founders. We are not a Direct Democracy where majority rules. We are a Representative Republic with a Constitution. The Constitution was specifically written to protect the MINORITY, because they are the ones who need protection. The majority does not need to be protected.
And if you are right about the majority rules, what about when the people of California voted to ban gay marriage? Why did a liberal judge throw out that election? You said "majority rules", so explain that one.
It's even more sad that busy-bodies like you spend your time trying to ban things you don't like. Keep letting them take others rights away. Sooner or later they are gonna take away the rights you like. Then what are you gonna do?
lol @ busybody...
my nan used to use that word.
Anyway, you are just having a severe emotional reaction to realizing a social reality.
Do you honestly think there isn't a reason to have particular laws in place in regards to products you may or may not use in order to maintain some semblance of a safe society?
Do you really believe that someone should be able to poison someone else by default of their own behaviours?
Do you think a precious resource such as clean drinking water should just be handled willy nilly, no laws, just whoever has it has it?
In short, you simply must have a rule of law. The elected government du jour can add, alter or take away from the law. More often than not, it's add. There is need for law in almost every aspect of our society. If you don't like the law, in your country, you are certainly welcome to try and change it. Lucky you!
Kung Fu is good for you.
You know David, it's really sad people like you are sheep. Don't you think we all deserve the right to make basic choices about our personal lives? We aren't talking about the right to open a shooting range in a neighborhood, or to open a porno store next to a school. We are talking about whether Americans can choose their figgin light bulbs!
Will you please tell me how certain washing machines and toilets are not conducive to a safe society?
Heck, speaking of poison, the new 'allowed' bulbs (CFLs) are much more dangerous to humans than the old ones. They just happen to use less energy. The new ones contain mercury, a toxic substance than can be fatal to humans. The old ones didn't have mercury. The EPA actually has a 3 page dcoument telling us how to safely clean up a CFL broken bulb. We didn't need to have the EPA tell us how to clean up a broken incandescent bulb.

Not if a liberal judge doesn't like the outcome of the election.
I'm still waiting for you to explain how we are a "majority rules" country, yet one liberal judge invalidated an election where the people of the State of California voted to ban gay marriage. Since you said "majority rules" here, please explain how that happened.
