first of all do you get problems more on the in breath than the out breath, because treatment will usually depend on which goves you more problems.

Have asthma?
Whether you will use tcm,*m or conventional I hope you will take time to get an accurate diagnosis at least.
Preferably from a specialist in respiratory medicine/pulmonology or possibly internal medicine at least.
I was diagnosed with ashtma when I was a little kid by a pediatrist, however it might have been a bit "overdiagnosed".
Anyway,I had a considerable medication and asthma just "died away" by time.Psychosomatic causes may trigger similar feelings too at times so these kinds of things are to be taken into account,as well as different conditions.

Well actually, its for a coworker. Last night at work she was in the restroom for like 30 minutes because she said she could not breath and was trying to catch her breath. I had never seen her do this before either, and had no idea she has asthma so I told her I'd check out this place and see if anyone can help. She has had it checked out, but I got no idea the details of it. All I know was last night she was struggling to breath, then left a little later.

Ok, here is an update of information. Some corrections from my last post...
-She usually has it kick in during the winter time, the rest of the year its pretty clear.
-Has a shortness of breath and it happens while at work
-She has gone to the doctor and is taking Clartin and something called Singlar or something like that.
-She is a chain smoker, smokes half a pack a day of Marlbro Ultra Lights.
-She drinks (she says once a week) 6 beers.
-Has no pets.
She said she won't quit smoking either.

There are different types of ashtma, however, treatment in mainstream medicine has proved effective/reasonable.
BUT since sheīs a smoker...smoking boosts the effects and severity of asthma like alcohol with psychiatric drugs (additionally it may kind of "bring it back")
"-Has no pets"
Unrelated, but according to more modern research and understanding,to have pets during development can help fend off ashtma etc.
Of course now it is a different case.
Oh well,I wish her luck but the case is you cannot honestly go looking for medical assistance from www boards.
I think her doctor would agree that she needs to get rid of those toxins at first/least.

I don't want to sound like a bore but to be honest the only information I would need to know is does she have problems with then in breath or the out breath. Ask her as most Asthma sufferers will usually be able to tell you which one.

Repulsive, in breath/inhale.

From a TCM point of view this definitely points to a Kidney deficiency. The reason I pressed this pint is that in TCM one of the functions of the Kidneys is to grasp the inbreath and descend it and it is considered the Lungs function to propel the out breath up and outwards. So if it's on the inbreath all TCM practitioners are more than likely to treat the Kidneys to help descend the in breath and stop it from being short or as you put "breathless"(ness).

What would you recommend as far as treating the kidney? Certain points on the body to massage, type of food to eat, etc?

To knuckle the kidney points on the back which are just below the rib cage and about 2-2.5 inches away from the centre of the spine. Aswell as this its good to massage the source points which are found in line the the height of the ankle bone (on the inner side not the outer), half way between the ankle bone itself and the achilles tendon.

Sounds like your ?asthma? was more on the psychosomatic side.
There may be no,but symptoms may be similar.
IMO asthma should have biological basis for a diagnosis.

What I am about to tell you worked for me. Realizing that people have different symptoms for ailments etc., this might not work but I have been doing Qigong 18 since 1997 - 1998 and it has helped me. Years ago I had brochial asthma, I could not stand dust/pollen but now I have no problem. If you need/like a copy of the program just send me your email and I will take care of you. Have a great day.
