    Kung Lek,

    No striking. Sport grappling tournament.

Not sure how to comment "it seemed to take a lot of effort." All things done in a competition format take a lot of effort. The only time its effortless is when you are that much better than the other guy....he's trying stuff... you're trying stuff... There's a lot going on...

Rogue--the grappling blueprint and it's principles, I believe, are applicable across the board.

Ok, wtf? That's one of those stupid videos where you can't change where it is with the scroll bar. Why is that? I hate that so much. I just tried to watch part of it again and it wouldn't let me. I can only play through the entire thing.

Is that a setting you select when you record the video or something?

    ok, straight grappling.

Your not bad in the guard.
Do you do it with striking as well?

Just an observation in re: taking a lot of effort.

    cheers

It's in .wmv format that's why you can't scroll.
    Go to http://www.tmpgenc.net/e_main.html
and download the program to convert .wmv to .mpeg files.

    MP,

Thanks for the response. You never said what you were going for though. Was it a snake choke?

I wasn't actually going for anything. I was just keeping his head off the mat. Wrestlers tend to bridge and roll, so if you keep their head off the mat they can't do that.

    good lesson in patience.

I'm still trying to do everything too fast.

Nice sweep James. Any chance you could describe the sweep and what to do if the guy counters by posting his arm for the audience at home.

    Brad,

The sweep I used was a hip bump sweep. Generally, I've found that wrestlers are NOT susceptible to that sweep, but I'd been really working on pulling him down into me hard and breaking his posture, so he'd started to base back a little. That allowed me to use the hip bump sweep to get him over.

When they post their arm to block it, you can move right into a bent arm lock.

My stats? I'm about 6 foot, and I think at that tournament came in at 184. I'm not that big...and certainly not that big w/respect to how much muscle I carry compared to other guys in my weight class. I'm fairly strong, naturally (ie, without lifting), but I am generally physically weaker than most people in my weight class.

I wrestled for about 4.5 years (seasons, not actually YEARS) and have been doing BJJ for around 3.5 now.

I have .asf and .mpgs that you can't scroll in, either. I hate them.

I use that sweep/kimura set up alot myself. Pretty impressive you set it up on a driving wrestler. I usually only work it on a knee cutting guard passer.

BTW i liked the grabbing of the headgear and Lloyd's comments to the other guys corner afterwards lol.

Is pressing the chin/face back like in that clip usually permitted in sport BJJ? I generally don't see it as much as I would have expected too; perhaps because the customary gi offers some better options if your hands are there anyway?
