Get used to fighting with them off. In a real fight if you get hit and lose them, you dont want to be in a whole different world.

Im legally blind, training without glasses is strange and difficult... but very necessary.

    You ever try wearing contacts?

Contacts tend to shift when you take a solid shot to the head, its worse than not having glasses because it totally distorts your vision until you readjust, which requires a hand... Not good.

I wear them all the time. I've never had the issue.

I did lose one once when I got popped in the eye and the contact stuck to the other guy's glove, though.

    Wow! That was fast!

Glasses also shift when you take a shot to the head

I do plan to have Lasik surgery in the near future but for the time being glasses are it.

MK - you heard about the new process of reshaping your cornia that they are working on? No lasers, no cutting, no surgery, can be repeated as necessary.
I cant remember what the hell its called though...

Haven't heard, but I'm extremely leary of having elective medical treatments. I'd rather wear contacts than risk my eyes being permanently damaged.

the only problem with getting hit with soft contacts is the possibility that it'll fall out...

if you have soft, disposable contacts and they've shifted, just blink, they'll usually fix themselves, you shouldn't need to use your hand.

If it falls out, you're back to square 1 anyway; even better, at least still have one good eye.

If you get lasik it's supposed to be no-contact for a full year.

Soft, disposable contacts have next to zero chance of actually doing serious damage to your eye.
Hard contacts, on the other hand, can really mess up your eyes from a punch; which is why contacts in general are usually prohibited in boxing.

d@mned if you do, d@mned if you don't...

personal call that kinda depends on just how bad your vision is

    Glasses

I wear glasses, but take them off when training. I'm w/Shake in thinking that I'm going to lose them at the beginning of a fight, so I might as well already know how to swim at this depth.

contacts come out. In a kickboxing match, I lost my contact in the ring....trying to fight with one good eye and one bad one is messed up.

Also, I've had them come out in judo tournies. In one particular match, I threw the guy and the ref called ippon. Since the match was over, I maintained the pin so the guy wouldn't move and told him I was looking for my contact. The ref of course couldn't hear that and was like "matte, matte!!" because he assumed I was still pinning/attacking. When I told him what I was doing, he doubled over in laughter.

sorry, but i thought this was a joke thread.

take em off (glasses) and take em out(contacts) if you are sparring with any degree of head contact or even light contact.

    seven, that IS funny.

    I'm absolutely blind without contacts.
    I can't see anything.
I've already seen what happens when I take mine out (ie KO).
So no thanks; I'll take my chances.
I've survived going hard many times with shifting contacts or the "one good eye" thing.
I am NOT going into a ring blind again.
You guys do what you want, but if you've got greater than like a -5.00 I don't know that I'd advise taking them out.

I wear contacts all the time. You can blink them back into position if you get hit. It's a bit weird and you are vulnerable for a few seconds but hey. That's also why I practice a close range style, just in case I can't see well I can rely on feel, but if I'm that close to you I can see fine.

I think in a couple of years I'll look into the "laser surgery" when the succes rate and technology should be even better and I've got the $$$. Everybody I know that's had it done is fine and can see well. One person I know has problems with night vision but that's because she didn't follow up with the 6 month and 1 year visits. Definitely lasers though-would never have somebody take a razor to my eyes

Dont they have prescription protective goggles? Granted, you will look like a total retard, but it will be very good protection if that is your highest priority.
