What planet are they from? The disclaimer should read - "If you're in a life threatening situation, don't use this technique as it will get you killed"
Experience is something you don't get until just after you need it
and since when did grappling equal bending over and holding the other guy's hips? (That sounds dodgy )

This is the part where I come along and smash your dreams by saying, "Thats older than God."

While I have seen some incredibally dumb BJJ solutions to knives, guns et al, I still see it as incredibally stupid not to be armed in some way yourself. THAT is the greater stupidity - thinking that not having the weapon to defend yourself is a good option.
Empty hand against a knife is highly risky, and the way most train it (outside of knife cultures), suicidal.
Although with the right psychology, even dumb techniques can work, but that is often ignored also...

No matter what the technique is, if your initial response doesn't somehow hurt and disable your attacker you will be a pin cushion.
You are only going to get one chance.
alive unarmed vs knife training is the bane of any martial arts system.
there is NO answer and luck plays a huge part in any unarmed vs weapon encounter. To suppose that one can train in such a way to optimize defense against an attack like this is shortsighted.
Anyone can get cut and gutted by someone with little or no skill. That is a fact.
So, we can probably say that for the most part you're screwed if it happens, but if you have an indominatable will, you might survive. You're probably better off giving the guy your wallet or if you're not in an elevator, run as quick as your legs will carry you in teh opposite direction for the knife holder..
Kung Fu is good for you.
I dont know... as long as you are realistic in your training... We have been doing some knife disarms that work fantastic lately. Use lipstick on the blade to see when you get cut and where you get cut. Have people attack from all directions. Keep the knife in your belt and introduce it randomly while sparring. Walk up on a student and pull the knife to simulate a robbery. Ive been doing a lot of studying on armed robberies and most times the assailant will buddy up with an arm around the victim, and pull the knife out next to the victims belly. We have worked a lot of closed situations like this.

Oh don't get me wrong, I've done my share of unarmed vs knife training.
but, i find that the more realism you add to this type of training, the more your chances decrease of not getting cut.
ie nobody comes at you with the frankenstein speed over head stab. The techniques that are done in an overly controlled textbook environment are very difficult to pull off at live speed and intent.
anyway, all i'm saying is that even when you drill and drill and drill, your chances are still 50/50 that yer gonna get cut.
Understanding that the first cut made usually isn't going to be the killing one. Your chances with training are better, but there is always a factor in there that makes escape the wisest choice in most scenarios.
Kung Fu is good for you.
While front push kicks are a great way to get you into a good position (assuming you've seen the knife in the first place at that range), if you are going to survive a knife attack in an enclosed space, you're going to have to know how to grapple against the knife. Continuing to kick only like what was shown will get you sliced to ribbons. Grappling against a knife should be nothing like that shown on the video. Not to mention the fact that a real knife attack will also not look like that seen on the video.

that was really really sad.
im going to go give someone a hug now.
where's my beer?
I agree with the assessment in regards to front push kicks. They cannot for the most deliver the decisve blow to stop the attack and you will eventually tire and get stabbed.
I agree with Abel that the fight if need be, should be taken to teh knife weilder and swift action looking for high damage needs to9 be taken to increase your chances of survival.
The grappling question is that the knife arm needs to be contained even at the cost of getting hit in the head. If the knife weilder is really aggressive it is still really really hard to pull off 100% of the time.
Respect the blade campers.

Thats stupid I'd personally do a flying crecent kick to the head (garunteed ko). Or maybe a crane beek to the eye. Those guys kick like girls.
Many systems train with live weapons in "alive" manners to produce competent people who can fight with weapons.
I agree with Meatshake. Train it.
strike!
