What forms do you use for comps?

12-15yrs ago I use to compete quite a bit. I always had forms that I competed with. Tweaked it a bit for contemporary vs the way I would do it for traditional.

I was taught Zhaoyang Chuan when I first took Shaolin Kempo and have kept up with the form and used it in many tournaments I went to. The weapon form I always liked was Tiger Tail single broadsword, until I learned the Plum Blossom double edged sword form.

Fast fwd to now. I have forgotten Zhaoyang Chuan cause I have not practiced it in 12yrs. I have notes on how to do it. Just need to work them out. Can't do Tigers Tail anymore cause it invovles doing the splits(can't do it anymore) and some aerial that my knees won't let me do. I think modifying it will take away from the wow factor that is needed in comps. Although the Plum Blossom sword form I still remember and can still do, it just seems plain to me now though. Guess my outlook has changed.

Been out of competing for the past 12+yrs or so, wanted to see what is out there these days. So what is YOUR favorite comp forms?

before I stopped doing forms divisions, I would do tuan da. in my jma days, I did either sanchin, heian yondan or heian sandan. I had more success with the basic heian katas than with more advanced katas for some reason.

    I like that form too.

Since I posted this, I dusted off my notes on Zhaoyang Chuan and found I still remember the form. After I got thru the first 4 steps, everything came back to me. Also I found an instructional video on Netflix, so I ordered it to see if I am maybe forgetting a step or two.

Looks like I have my comp form for the Taiji Legacy this year.
