Some of these balls play "musical" sounds, like they have bells inside them. I always found that annoying. Is there any point to the sounds, or is it just a gimmick?

In the old time the Baoding ball was also used to put at the 4 corners inside of a throwing bag. When the bag is flying toward you, you can hear the sound (it functions as bells). When a 20 lb bag flying toward you, it's quite dangerous to get hit on the head (people were killed by the throwing bag in the past).

Greetings,
I did not know that Baoding balls made sounds. I thought it was just the women that used them.
uki,
What are the diameters of the Baoding balls that you use?
By the way, Baoding balls were also used as throwing weapons.
