according to the modern research, shoes for the training are VERY important, but not the way people think. usually, the more simple, cheaper (and thin soled as i wrote before) shoes, the better.

Consider the possiblity to practice barefeet: still a great option if it's not too cold, very good stability.
I like to practice barefeet or with the classic feiyue.

too easy to get disease when you cannot control the hygiene of others.
good thing to do as well if you own a school, forbid street shoes from being on the training floor and no bare feet.
It's common sense, good hygiene and disease prevention that any and all open schools should be adhering too.

I don't allow any shoes on the mats. Ever. I bleach them before class *and* after. The one time I caught staph was because I let someone wear wrestling shoes that they had also worn on high school wrestling mats. I still have scars on my arm and stomach from the blisters.

No matter what condition felyue soft shoe I've used, I always use a real fiber type orthotic for arch support - not the cheap drug store stuff, but the kind that cost $30 a pair at a good sporting good store. A long day without them, especially a demonstration or dragon dance following a Saturday class, can be murder on the feet. Such a severe pain that even a free Chinese banquet and Ting Tsao celebration afterwards can't compensate for (well not totally at least).
