with statistics in hand, you can prove whatever pointrcyou like even if it is terrifically wrong and incorrect! If it jibes statistically, you can argue it successfully.
That's why so many poor presenters and orators who lack skill use statistics. Because they can't use common sense or methodological reason to make their point and instead rely on data gathered elsewhere. they generally have no idea how the data was collected or from whom, but because of the convenience of the numbers weighed against their own emotional investment in some unimportant point....well, you see how it can go.
