The team behind the Kickboxer remake, Kickboxer: Vengeance, due to be released in theaters later this year, has already begun pre-production for the film’s sequel, Kickboxer: Retaliation.

Our House Films in association with Acme Rocket Fuel has announced that Hafthor Julius Björnsson (aka The Mountain from “Game of Thrones”) will be the Kickboxer’s next formidable foe. The film, which will be directed by its co-writer and producer Dimitri Logothetis, will have Alain Moussi and Jean-Claude Van Damme, among others, reprising their roles as they match against a syndicate of criminals.

Hafthor, who recently wrapped production on season six of “Game of Thrones,” has further established himself and gained online notoriety from his social media post that went viral showing him sparring UFC’s champion, Conor McGregor.

“The response we have garnered for the first film, before its release, has been staggering, and we are excited to continue the franchise with the Mountain himself added to the cast,” says Kickboxer franchise producer, Rob Hickman.

Filming on Kickboxer: Retaliation is set to begin in Thailand in May, immediately following Hafthor’s battle at the 2016 World’s Strongest Man competition.

Former world champion boxer Mike Tyson has joined “Kickboxer: Retaliation,” the sequel to “Kickboxer: Vengeance.”

“Kickboxer: Retaliation” is currently filming in California and Nevada and will head back to Thailand in June for final principal photography.

“This is a monumental moment for us,: said producer Robert Hickman of Our House Films. “We have already signed on 14 champions from the sporting world, mostly decorated fighters from the UFC, being able to add Mike Tyson as a cast member adds a whole new element and excitement to the film.”

“Kickboxer: Vengeance” was directed by John Stockwell, and starred Alain Moussi, Jean-Claude Van Damme (who played Kurt Sloane in the original “Kickboxer”), Dave Bautista, Gina Carano, Georges St-Pierre and Darren Shahlavi. RLJ Entertainment bought the rights to “Kickboxer: Vengeance,” a remake of the original 1989 “Kickboxer,” and is planning a release in September in theaters and VOD.

Dimitri Logothetis (“Stephen King’s Sleepwalkers”), who holds two black belts, is the writer/producer of “Kickboxer: Vengeance” and is directing the sequel.

“Words cannot express my excitement for this second installment,” he said. “The passion I have for this genre just keeps getting bigger and the cast we have assembled is phenomenal. Expect to see spectacular, non-stop, action-packed martial arts from real fighters.”

In “Kickboxer: Retaliation,” Moussi’s character Kurt Sloane is brought back forcibly to Thailand to fend for his life against a new formidable foe, portrayed by Hafþór Júlíus Björnsson, who plays The Mountain on “Game of Thrones.”

Tyson will portray a tough convict forced into a world of fighting behind bars. He joins the previously announced Paige VanZant in the film.

Our House Films and Acme Rocket Fuel will produce, while Larry Nealy and Steven Michael Swadling of Our House Films will serve as executive producers.

Tyson has made cameos in movies and TV, inclduing the shows “Law and Order: Special Victims Unit” and “How I Met Your Mother.” He memorably appeared in 2009’s “The Hangover,” demanding the return of his tiger, stolen by the film’s protagonists.

In recent years, Tyson has also appeared in “Scary Movie 5,” “Grudge Match” and “Ip Man 3.”

KICKBOXER RETALIATION CAST GOES BIG TIME
WITH ROY “BIG COUNTRY” NELSON

July 18, 2016, Los Angeles, CA – UFC heavyweight fighter Roy Nelson, also known as Big Country, has joined the cast of the upcoming Kickboxer: Retaliation. This is the second installment in a trilogy reboot of 1989’s hit action film Kickboxer, which was a worldwide phenomenon starring Jean-Claude Van Damme.

Kickboxer: Retaliation picks up where Kickboxer: Vengeance leaves off with Kurt Sloan (Moussi) back in Thailand fending for his life against a new formidable foe, Mongkut portrayed by Hafþór Júlíus Björnsson (The Mountain on Game of Thrones). Nelson, who is a trained mixed martial artist and former professional rugby player, is set to appear in the film alongside previously announced fighting champions Mike Tyson, Georges St. Pierre and Fabrizio Werdum, worldwide soccer phenom Ronadlinho and Jean Claude Van Damme. He’ll portray an inmate who is part of a group of prisoners being held with Kurt Sloan and training him to fight for his life.

“Roy’s determination during our Vegas shoot, as he worked alongside Mike Tyson and Ronaldinho, showed us that he obviously has a genuine love for the screen,” said producer Rob Hickman. “His intriguing performance has led our team to expand his role in the film and we believe this could open further doors, ultimately being a cross over opportunity for him. Roy will now be heading to Thailand to work with the rest of the cast,” producer Rob Hickman.

August 8, 2016 Los Angeles, CA – Christopher Lambert, has joined the cast of Kickboxer: Retaliation. Lambert’s casting teams him with Jean Claude Van Damme, to meld two of the great genre movies Highlander and Kickboxer, movies that motivate audiences years after their initial box office releases. Kickboxer: Retaliation is the second installment in a trilogy reboot of 1989’s hit action film Kickboxer.

He's a purist that believes Muay Thai fighters who fight to the death are warriors. A master-manipulator, he has influence everywhere and of course with the use of his money, he is able to imprison Kurt Sloan in order to make him fight a monster. Moore does not accept the word “No”. With a state of the art scientist, using HGH, steroids and other concoctions, in his own lab, Moore has created Mongkut, 6' 9" and over 400 hundred pounds of Muay Thai destruction, Moore wants to use Sloan’s fame as world champion to advance his man by pitting the two champions, "David Vs Goliath,' against each other in the ring.

“We’re thrilled to be adding Christopher Lambert to the cast. Joining the fan bases of both Highlander and Kickboxer is a box-office dream come true,” said producer Rob Hickman. “Martial arts aficionados and fantasy fans alike will be pleased in the pairing of Lambert with Van Damme.”

Martial arts films are now a thing for him.

I'm not surprised that Mike Tyson's appearing in MA films. Almost 30 years ago, I read an interview with Taiwan kung fu/action movie star Alexander Lo Rei in the UK's Combat Magazine. In the article, the interviewer (don't remember who; was it Toby Russell or Bey Logan??) informed Lo Rei that according to a source (possibly George Tan?), that Mike Tyson's 'favorite kung fu movie' was Shaolin vs Lama, which starred Lo Rei. Reportedly, Tyson was known to have gone to see the movie (on 42nd Street in NYC) like 5 or 6 times.

But that was way back in the '80s. I have doubts that Tyson still has as much if any interest in actually watching KF films anymore (I could be wrong).

'Kickboxer: Retaliation' Producers File $5M Copyright Suit Over Final-Cut Leak

'Kickboxer: Retaliation'

Our House Films claims a postproduction house is responsible for a leak of the movie, which brought in less than $5,000 at the box office.

Millions of people watched unauthorized versions of Kickboxer: Retaliation online before the Jean-Claude Van Damme film's January release, according to a complaint filed Monday in California federal court.

Our House Films claims Tunnel Inc., a postproduction house, violated its contract by distributing the final cut of the movie to third parties without permission.

"Tunnel has failed to respond to Plaintiff's requests for substantive information concerning the parties to whom the final cut was disseminated," writes attorney Paul Sorrell in the complaint. He adds that because the film was available illicitly online worldwide prior to the release producers were robbed of all or a substantial portion of its value.

The latest installment in the Kickboxer franchise made less than $5,000 at the domestic box office. It brought in about $58,000 in United Arab Emirates theaters, at which its 2016 counterpart, Kickboxer: Vengeance, grossed more than $200,000. The original 1989 Kickboxer film earned almost $15 million domestically.

Our House is suing for copyright infringement and negligence, and is seeking at least $5 million in damages.

Tunnel has not yet replied to a request for comment on the complaint, which is posted below.
