It's not difficult to distinguish fake from real. In

- real fight, your opponent's defense ability will remain consistent. He tries not to give you any opportunity.
- fake fight, your opponent's defense ability will be turned on and off. He tries to give you opportunity.

When you choke your opponent's throat, if he

- tries to break your neck choke as hard as he can, that's real.
- drops his hands next to his legs and vibrates his body like a fish, that's fake.

Well, let me be a little more polite. It is a work, to use a pro wrestling term.

W is for WILDLY

O is for ORCHESTRATED

R is for RIDICULOUS

K is for KUNG FU

Seriously, I have seen footage of fighting from that time period. And the real stuff did not look anything like that. And you had to watch a lot of, uhh, stuff like what was posted to get to see it. I was lucky to catch it on Chinese television a long time ago.

What was posted probably inspired those "fighting shows" on Chinese television that we see posted here from time to time.

There is a place for performance martial arts within Chinese culture. so, what we are watching is traditional to Chinese culture. While I would not say that pro wrestling has evolved to the point of being traditional, works have been around for a good while and, who knows, may have a common, shared, origin.

They are barely hitting each other and seem to effortlessly pull off these throws. And the throws happen often. Throws don't get pulled off like this in Shuai Jiao competitions. Google some video of these competitions and you won't see this many throws so effortlessly.

in shuai Jiao if you hit the ground you lose. in sanda you lose points. you can get thrown 30 times and still win. its hard to tell if they are real or fake.

maybe they don't spar with gloves and equipment so they don't go that hard and maybe they just suck... that doesn't make it fake or a work

and, also, Chinese tend to think 'point sparring' is a great way to train
