West Coast Chinese Swordsmanship Seminar 2009 - Emeryville, CA
The city of Emeryville presents a rare opportunity to learn the art of fighting with the Chinese Jian (Straight sword) from world-renowned teacher of Yang Family Taiji Quan, Scott M. Rodell. Rodell has been training in this system for over 20 years, and has traveled extensively throughout the world learning parts of this system from the best teachers he could find.
The dates for Rodell's second West Coast trip are April 4 & 5, 2009. He will bring his vast knowledge to up to 12 interested individuals. The small class size is to help facilitate a quality learning environment.
What is unique about this class is it is an opportunity to learn sword fighting from one of the best this country has to offer without having to devote years to training in martial arts. Typically sword forms are not taught to students unless they have trained in a martial art style for a long time, so this is a short-cut straight to the sword.
The class will consist of two six-hour sessions and time permitting Rodell may begin teaching the first part of the rarely seen MiChuan Jian form.

April 5th-11th marks a new chapter in the USA Shaolin Temple Warrior Monk Retreat Program, as we journey abroad to spend a week of training in the over 1500 years of traditional Shaolin disciplines as transmitted by 34th Generation Shaolin Temple Monk Shifu Shi Yan Ming, all while embedded in the stunning cliff environments of Negril Jamaica. You will train amongst the abundant and resplendent natural phenomena of Negril, Jamaica, where stunning cliff panoramas unfold over the sparkling blue waters of the Carribean where pirates and royal armadas vied for power and gold, giving way to miles and miles of white sugar sand beaches where we will take our morning warm up jogs. The disciplines of Tai Ji and Chi Kung will be diligently pursued against this vibrant and awe inspiring background, offering retreatants a serious opportunity to gain major improvements in their practice, whether you are a Shaolin practitioner, other kungfu or martial arts stylist, or Yoga practitioner, even for beginners. Our host for the retreat will be the Negril Escape Resort and Spa, offering retreatants a far more comfortable living experience than we?ve previously been able to provide. All meals, training, and rooms will be included in the package price, as well as your airport transfers to and from Montego Bay. Retreatants will be responsible for airfare from their departure city to Montego Bay. Three meals a day are prepared according to our traditional menus and specifications by a local Chinese Jamaican chef, adding a unique and nutritious touch to our traditional communal meals.
