2009 Internal Chinese Martial Arts and Qigong Retreat Hosted by Grandmaster Shou-Yu Liang and Master Helen Liang
TIGER CLAW FOUNDATION SUPPORTED EVENT August 2, 3 - Health Maintenance & Daoist Qigong Medical Qigong focuses on health healing and illness prevention training, with methods to strengthen the organs and rejuvenate overall health. Learn how to relax the body and calm the mind, six healing sounds for nourishing life, the Qi permeating technique, emitting Qi, absorbing Qi, healing Qi, unifying the cosmos and the human body, develop your healing ability, and Qigong for developing incredible strength. We'll cover Qigong methods to remedy many common ailments and teach a daily practice regiment to help you maintain your Qigong training. Daoist Qigong is a system of methods which include both longevity training and higher spiritual training; how to elevate from the level of Qi cultivation to light cultivation and to spirit cultivation. In this workshop we'll cover the Fundamentals of Qi Circulation, Microcosmic Circulation, Daoist Qigong for Cultivating Body, and regulating the spirit against negative energies. We'll also teach the Golden Light Qigong System - a powerful training method to help attain spiritual enlightenment. --- August 4, 5 - Liu He Ba Fa - Water Style Liuhe Bafa is one of the major internal style martial arts. It utilizes the power of Xingyiquan as its center, utilizes the stepping patterns of Baguazhang for its turning and spinning, and utilizes the neutralizing power of Taijiquan for its variations. Its movements are sometimes high, sometimes low, sometimes fast, sometimes slow. These movements resemble that of floating clouds, and flowing water that is sometimes calm, sometimes surging. Therefore, it is also known as Water Style. The movements of Liuhe Bafa are constantly fluctuating with clearly defined forward, backward, upward, downward, and lateral motions. Each and every movement is lead by the mind (xinyi). The mind initiates and the movements follow. It is therefore also known as Xinyi Liuhe Bafa. There are two Liuhe Bafa routines: Liuhe Bafa Quan and Sanpan Shiershi. Liuhe Bafa Quan consists of sixty-six postures including over five hundred martial applications. It is divided into two sections, and each section is practiced as a routine. Sanpan Shiershi is a foundation training routine that includes advancing, retreating, rising and lowering movements which is designed to develop reaction skills for combat. --- August 6 - Taiji Yin Yang 13 Postures Form Taiji 13 Postures consists of the fundamental postures that, in various styles, comprise all other Taiji movements. This workshop will teach each movement in detail as well as its application - students will have hands-on training with partner practice. Training will also focus on the eight basic energies: Peng, Lu, Ji, An, Tsai, Lie, Jou, Kao, and their applications. Advanced training includes integrating the various styles of Taiji including Yang, Wu, Chen, and Sun. --- August 7 - Taiji 13 Sword and Spear An extension of Taiji 13 Postures with the sword (or short weapon) and the spear (long weapon). Includes form and applications of all movements. --- August 8, 9, 10 - IWSD Level 1 Black Belt Training and Test Wushu Sanshou Dao ranking is very demanding. To attain each level of black belt, the practitioners must go through rigorous training and testing. Only the well-rounded practitioners with exceptional knowledge and skills are granted black belt status. There are nine black belt levels in the IWSD Association. The prerequisite for attaining the First Level Black Belt rank is a satisfactory mastery of the six major components outlined in the IWSD training. Aug 8 training includes Xiao Ya Na routine, Taiji Push Hands, and One-Step applications. --- Aug 9 training includes Qinna, Take-Downs, and Free Sparring. Official testing for Black Belt status will occur on Aug 10.

Chen XiaoWang in Annapolis area
Chen XiaoWang will present a workshop on Silk Reeling and posture corrections. Silk Reeling is the foundational root of Chen TaijiQuan. The coiling, spiral movements of silk reeling helps one to feel the proper energy flow through the body and to develop the optimal muscular/skeletal structure and proper bio-mechanics of moving in a relaxed, fluid and balanced manner. There is a constant balancing of opposing forces and storing and releasing of energy in the movements. The coiling movements also provide many of the health benefits of taiji. Coiling through the waist gives internal organs a massage, while coiling through the joints provides low impact exercise to build tendon and ligament strength while moving synovial fluid to help nourish cartilage.
