    The Nibelungs

I love Wagner, but like the swastika, Nibelung is another cultural appropriation that I cannot stand.

Germany: Police raid far-right martial arts tournament
Around 90 participants attended the mixed martial arts (MMA) event, which was banned last year for having far-right ties. The fights were set to be held at a motorcycle club in Saxony-Anhalt.

Police raided a right-wing extremist Mixed Martial Arts (MMA) tournament on Saturday in the German state Saxony-Anhalt.

The event, in Magdeburg, about 160 kilometers (100 miles) southwest of Berlin, was set to take place on the grounds of a motorcycle club.

Advertised as the "Battle of the Nibelungs," the competition was banned due to reasonable suspicion that many of the participants had ties to far-right extremism.

Around 140 police officers took part in the raid or were placed on standby nearby.

When they arrived, a boxing ring and other equipment had already been set up for the event, which was set to include a variety of combat sports.

The officers later confiscated the ring and ordered all attendees to leave the premises. The participants included 90 people from 10 different states.

Germany's intelligence services have described the event as "the largest and most renowned European martial arts event for the right-wing extremist scene."

    Participants defy ban
The tournament had taken place several times in the eastern city of Saxony and was officially banned last year, after a leading neo-Nazi from the city of Dortmund registered the event in his name.

Police sent around 300 officers to enforce the ban on last year's event, which was set to be held in Ostritz, a small city on the border with the Czech Republic.

The fight has been held every year since 2013, and has seen hundreds of right-wing extremists from across Germany, Europe and even the United States take part, according to the office.

The event is organized "by young Germans who are united by the dedication and enthusiasm for 'their' sport and who do not want to be subject to the yoke of the prevailing mainstream," the event's website said.

"The Battle of the Nibelungs does not want to understand sport as part of a rotting political system, but as a fundamental one to an establish an alternative."

Mixed Martial Arts: UFC middleweight champ Adesanya apologises for 'rape' remark

    Thu, March 25, 2021, 11:47 PM·1 min read

    MMA: UFC 248-Adesanya vs Romero

(Reuters) - UFC middleweight champion Israel Adesanya has apologised after he said on social media he would "rape" fellow fighter Kevin Holland.

Nigerian-born Adesanya posted an expletive-laden video on Instagram earlier this week directed at Holland, who had targeted him in a series of remarks.

The 31-year-old, who currently resides in New Zealand, later deleted the video and said he had "crossed the line".

"I understand the gravity of this word and how it can affect and hurt other people apart from my opponent, although that was never my intention," Adesanya tweeted https://twitter.com/stylebender/stat...63658053902339.

"I am still growing under the spotlight, and I take this as a lesson to be more selective with words under pressure."

Adesanya's apology came after Grant Robertson, New Zealand's deputy prime minister and minister of sport and recreation, condemned his comment.

"We have to take rape seriously. It's not an issue that anyone should be making jokes or flippant comments about at all," Robertson said.

Adesanya was undefeated in MMA with a 20-0 record until he was beaten by Jan Blachowicz in a light heavyweight title match at UFC 259 on March 6.

    PALM BEACH COUNTY, Fla. —
A 56-year-old man was arrested for his involvement in the shooting at the Bamboo Room in Lake Worth Beach on March 20.

Antonio Montes De Oca Hernandez discharged a weapon inside and outside the venue following an in-person mixed martial arts event, where a fight broke out that ended with a shot being fired, the Palm Beach Sheriff's Office said.

Investigators said Hernandez hit someone with a folding chair, grabbed a gun from his wife's purse and shot the gun into the air.

No one was hit with a bullet, but several people had minor injuries from the panic caused by the shot being fired.

Three days after the shooting, authorities shared pictures of the suspect.

On Saturday, PBSO requested the assistance of the Hialeah Police Department to arrest Hernandez. He was arrested without incident

Hernandez is currently at the Dade County Jail in Palm Beach County facing charges of shooting into a building and affray.

Authorities said there will be more arrests as a result of this case.
    I miss in-person fights.

    Joshua J. Duggins

Records say suspect in attack on Fredericksburg police officer had martial arts training
    Keith Epps Jul 28, 2021 1

    Duggins

The man accused of pummeling a Fredericksburg police officer last week in Central Park had training as a mixed martial arts fighter, court records state.

Joshua J. Duggins, 31, is charged with malicious wounding and assault on a law-enforcement officer. He is being held in the Rappahannock Regional Jail.

According to affidavits for search warrants filed in Fredericksburg Circuit Court, Officer F.P. Murphy was in the Walmart parking lot shortly after 6:30 a.m. July 21 when he noticed a man breaking into a white Chevrolet pickup in the area of Sky Zone.

When Murphy approached what an affidavit described as being a man “of very large stature,” the man attacked the officer, pinned him on the ground and struck him repeatedly, the affidavits state.

Two bystanders, including a woman who pounded the suspect with a baseball bat in an effort to get the man off Murphy, helped rescue the officer. Murphy was treated at Mary Washington Hospital for head injuries.

The search warrants gave police the authority to search the vehicle for fingerprints and other evidence of an attempted larceny. Police also received permission to search Duggins’ hands and knuckles for DNA related to the assault on Murphy.

Duggins has a preliminary hearing scheduled for Aug. 17.
I guess MMA doesn't train defense against bats.
